Hong Leong Yahama Motor Sdn Bhd was incorporated in Malaysia in 1978, and it is a Motorcycle Manufacturing joint venture business between Hong Leong Industries Bhd and Yamaha Motor Co., Limited in Japan.
Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn Bhd was appointed the official franchise holder for CKD and CBU Yamaha motorcycles and ATVs in Malaysia. The plant is located in Shah Alam, and was the first to roll out its first CKD Yamaha model in 1979.
Its parent company, Hong Leong Industries Bhd, is a Malaysian Public Listed Company, and part of a Hong Leong Group of Companies in Malaysia.
Today, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn Bhd is located at Sungai Buloh, Selangor, occupying an area of 35.6 acres. The huge area consists of its Marketing and Distribution arm of the company, a Research & Development centre (R&D), and 4 factories which consists of pressing and welding of metal parts, spray painting, assembly, and plastic injection moulding. A warehouse is also located in the vicinity for distribution of CBU motorcycles.
The models manufactured at the plant are: 3 mopeds, 3 automatic scooters, and 2 street models are being manufactured and assembled. These models are only for sale in Malaysia.
The annual production capacity of the manufacturing plant is 250,000 units a year, after a factory expansion done in 2011.
On 19th October 2012, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor rollout the Third Millionth Yamaha Motorcycle. The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai.
Yamaha Motor Malaysia is among the top two motorcycle models in Malaysia, with a 33 percent market share.
As of today, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor assembles an innovative motorcycles model line-up of: Mopeds - 135LC hand clutch and auto clutch, Lagenda 115Z & ZR and Y125ZR. The Automatic range are Ego S, Ego LC, Nouvo LC while Street range are FZ150i and XJ6 Diversion.
